About Us

Formula Student is a student design competition organized by the Institution of Mechanical engineers (IMechE) and the SAE International (formerly Society of Automotive Engineers). The competition takes place at the end of every academic year (normally in early July) and it is the best of its kind in Europe.

Since 2003 the UPMracing Team led by the INSIA (Instituto Universitario de Investigación del Automovil) and the UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) has been participating in this competition, becoming one of the most experienced and talented Formula Student team in Spain.

The UPMracing Team consists of 50 students of the UPM (Aerospace and Mechanical engineering faculties) as well as students studying a professional master in the INSIA.

The team is divided in 9 departments: Aerodynamics, chassis, Engine,  Vehicle Dynamics, Electronics, Brakes, Suspension-Transmission and Organization.

Each division is headed by a manager who is responsible for coordinating and managing the work of all its members, make technical decisions and act as a spokesperson in general technical meetings. The final result is a well organized and multi-disciplinary group of colleagues who will design, develop and test a prototype car.

Becoming a member of the UPMracing Team demands total commitment, lots of late nights, and many frustrations and challenges along the way, EVEN DANGER!!! but the net result is the development of highly talented young engineers.
